Members of our family had been enjoying the water recreational activities of Medina Lake for years, occasionally staying overnight on weekends. In our search for accommodations, we discovered that there were basically two types of facilities near the lake: the simple cabin and the campgrounds. There just was not a high-end, luxury retreat that could accommodate our family, at a reasonable cost, with easy access to the lake.

With our requirements in mind, in 2000 we decided to use some land that had been in the family for years and build our luxury retreat. In 2001 it was complete and we used it extensively that summer. We named it the "Chimney Inn" after the remnants of an early homestead on the property.

An opportunity to purchase another property arose in 2002 and thus the "Dockside" came to be. Hill Country Vistas was also established that year in order to share these upscale homes with visitors to the area.
